The audio operator is responsible for all the sources of sound in a television show.

The audio operator positions all microphones, cues the musical background and show themes, and controls the volume levels through the audio mixer.

He follows the script closely while keeping an eye on the video monitor, to supply the proper audio mix at precisely the right moment. The composite mix of all sound sources is supplied to master control for mixing with the video product.

The audio operator also needs a good sense of timing and rhythm with an ear for a pleasing audio product.

Good audio is an important factor in the quality of the finished video product.
